Our History

Hatched in 1979 under the leadership of John and Sondra Maness, Shady Knoll Gamebird Farm began raising quality birds for gamebird preserves all around. John’s father had a rich history of guiding on several Southern Plantations in South Carolina training bird dogs, participating in trials, and raising quail. We were able to make our first sale of quail as the second generation grower by 1980.

Our reputation and sales took flight very quickly, and we have since grown to accommodate thousands of healthy birds each year.

Although it has since changed hands after the passing of John Maness in 2009, his son Jeffrey continues to run Shady Knoll Gamebird Farm by the same standards of quality that they became known for.
